The 2nd round of the Geodesic GoPro Championship threw more twists into the championship fight as drivers battle to win a GoPro Hero 7 Black, trophies, and other prizes.
While the first race of the series at Road America saw no Safety Car action, Round 2 at Phillip Island saw the Porsche Safety Car intervene twice in the early goings of the 90 minute race.
In the GTLM category for GTE-spec BMWs, Fords, Porsches, and Ferraris, Robert L. Harris put his Team Tortuga 911 RSR on pole position for the 2nd time in a row. Differing from round 1 though he delivered race pace to match, in doing so claiming his first win and taking the points lead in the GTLM division. While Round 1 winner Tyson Meier managed 4th, his Alpinestars Geodesic teammate Jonathan Brault made sure the team still featured on the podium by grabbing 2nd place. In his debut appearance in the series, Beau Albert showed strong pace to recover to 3rd from a drive through penalty. Therefore the GTLM podium from Round 2 is hence:
1st – Robert L. Harris, #1 Porsche 911 RSR
2nd – Jonathan Brault, #35 BMW M8 GTE
3rd – Beau Albert, #06 BMW M8 GTE
For all the surprises in faster category, the GTD classification looks very familiar to the opening round. Brian Lockwood goes 2-from-2 on the top step of the podium for GT3 cars, extending the points lead for himself and his RaceKraft Engineering entry. 2nd place was also a mirror of round 1, as John Miller III finishes runner-up once again. The only change to the podium was Marino Reyes grabbing 3rd and ensuring the series organisers’ Alpinestars Geodesic cars we represented on both class podiums.
1st – Brian Lockwood, #143 Mercedes AMG GT3
2nd – John Miller III, #111 Mercedes AMG GT3
3rd – Marino Reyes, #000 Mercedes AMG GT3

With 2 rounds now complete, the excitement continues as the stakes are raised even higher. In addition to the GoPro Hero 7 Black with Action kit for each class champion, and trophies and t-shirts for the top 3 in each class, the organisers have announced that for Round 3 the race winners in each category will receive US$50 by PayPal or iRacing credits. This new prize is courtesy of Building Optimizations Systems, who also serve as replay sponsor on SimSpeed’s live coverage. More one-off prizes are yet to be announced.
